Survivor-led safeguarding for every voice
The Wolf Project transforms lived experience into accessible safeguarding resources, communication tools, and compassionate training to protect children, neurodivergent individuals, and people with SEND.
Transforming safeguarding through lived advocacy
We are a survivor-led safeguarding charity based in Hampshire, dedicated to ensuring that no child or vulnerable individual is overlooked, misunderstood, or retraumatised. By reframing behaviour as communication and recognising non-traditional trauma responses, we create genuinely inclusive pathways for protection and support.
Our focus extends to equipping parents, carers, educators, and healthcare practitioners with neurodiversity-affirming resources. We promote accessible tools that facilitate safer disclosures, teach essential bodily boundaries, and help young people navigate healthy relationships into safer adulthood.
Our key focus areas
Resources and communication tools
๐ Professional resources & future training
Developing practical safeguarding resources for professionals and organisations. In the longer term, this may include specialist training and development of the Wolf Standard for trauma-informed, communication-accessible safeguarding.
๐ฌ Communication & inclusion
Accessible resources supporting children and young people who communicate through words, signs, symbols, pictures, gestures or behaviour — particularly those with SEND or who are neurodivergent.
๐ซถ Safe relationships & adulthood
Accessible resources helping young people understand boundaries, consent, healthy and unhealthy relationships, warning signs, personal choice and safety as they move towards adulthood.
๐บ Trauma-informed safeguarding
Compassionate resources created by survivors to provide clear, validating information during times of crisis.Practical resources helping professionals understand trauma responses, recognise changes in behaviour and look beyond behaviour that may otherwise be dismissed as challenging or disruptive.
Behaviour can be communication.
Silence can be communication.
Distress can be communication.
Who we work alongside
Schools and education: Supporting better recognition of abuse, trauma and distress, particularly where SEND or communication differences can make signs easier to miss.
Health and care professionals: Helping professionals consider how trauma, communication needs and lived experience can affect disclosure and responses to safeguarding concerns.
Social care and safeguarding professionals: Bringing survivor insight and SEND accessibility into conversations about safeguarding practice and the way children and young people are heard.
Charities and community organisations: Sharing practical, accessible resources that can strengthen safeguarding and help organisations respond to children and young people with greater understanding.
Lived experience at the heart of safeguarding
The Wolf Project was built from lived experience, and that perspective remains at the heart of our work. We use survivor insight to help identify the gaps that traditional safeguarding approaches can miss — particularly where trauma, neurodivergence or communication barriers make it difficult for a child or young person to tell someone what is happening.
Lived experience does not replace professional knowledge. It adds a perspective that cannot be learned from a textbook. By bringing both together, we can develop safeguarding approaches that listen differently, look beyond behaviour and respond to the individual rather than expecting every person to communicate distress in the same way.
Because safeguarding should not only ask what happened. It should ask what this person needs now. ๐บ๐
Traditional safeguarding frameworks frequently miss the voices of those who communicate differently. We bridge that divide through direct survivor insight, helping to create safeguarding approaches that listen, understand, and respond effectively.
